well this post isn't really about if god does or doesn't exist its about how
people can believe in god. but if you want to talk about his existence thats
fine too.
i think it was totally immoral to drop the bombs on japan
for one i also have done some research in the past about this subject and have
come to the same conclutions that Tatsumi09 did for many of the same reasons.
for one the japanese were willing to surender but since the emperor's saftey
wasn't garenteered they didn't surender. the emperor is like a god in japan at
the time and most people wouldn't ever consider looseing him. i also don't think
it could be considered moral or ethical to bomb a civilian city killing inocent
civilians whether it was the americans, germans, or the japanese that did it and
i also don't think saying it was war is in anyway a good justification of
killing civians.
well to anyone who does believe in god or something according to Freud something
is WRONG with you. when you can not solve a problem you turn to a higher power
because you are too stupid or incompetent to solve the problem yourself.

“Religion is a kind of spiritual gin in which
the slaves of capital drown their human shape and their claims to any decent
life.Ã¢â‚¬Âť
Religion dulls the pain caused by oppression.
It does nothing to solve the problem; it is a bad attempt to make life more
bearable.
1. Salvation from bondage and misery by promised after-life
2. Promises people will be rewarded for their virtue
3. Offers hope of supernatural intervention to solve problems on earth
4. Often justifies social order and a persons place within it
Helps people at the bottom accept their situation.
Karl Marx
As an “opiate of the
people,Ã¢â‚¬Âť Marx recognized that religion served
a true function in society Ã¢â‚¬â€ś but did not
agree with the foundation of that function. As Marx commentator Norman Birnbaum
stated, to Marx, “religion [was] a spiritual
response to a condition of alienation.Ã¢â‚¬Âť (Ibid
126) Responding to alienation, Marx thought that religion served to uphold the
ideologies and cultural systems that foster oppressive capitalism. Thus,
“Religion was conceived to be a powerful
conservative force that served to perpetuate the domination of one social class
at the expense of others.Ã¢â‚¬Âť (Ibid 127). In
other words, religion held together the system that oppressed
lowerÃ¢â‚¬â€śclass individuals. And so, in
Marx’s infamous words,
“To abolish religion as the illusory happiness
of the people is to demand their real happiness. The demand to give up illusions
about the existing state of affairs to the demand to give up a state of affairs
which needs illusions. The criticism of religion is therefore in embryo the
criticism of the vale of tears, the halo of which is
religion.Ã¢â‚¬Âť

well first off thx for the post i thought you made some intersting points. and
to answer your question i don't really know why i want to be religous maybe so i
have something to do or because i'm just bored. right now i just want to know
how people can have so much faith in something that really can't be proven
I am an atheist and have been for my entire life. While I did attend church for
a couple of years when I was like 5 I never really believed in god. Now that
I’m a little older I want to find
something more to life I guess and religion is a perfect thing to do. It can
fill up some free time and should give me a new meaning to life but I just
can’t bring myself to believe in god. I
think its kinda absurd and stuff but I try and just
can’t seem to believe in him. So I was
wondering how all those other religious people do it so my question to you is
HOW DO YOU BELIEVE IN GOD?
